How to transfer 1C to the cloud

A great number of Russian companies use 1C platform solutions for accounting. Thanks to cloud technologies, businesses can choose between a standard out-of-the-box and a cloud solution. Each option has its specific features. In this article, we consider transferring 1C to the cloud.

Cloud 1C database is a database run on a cloud computing platform.

We explore the migration of the database located on the physical servers, as the transfer of the client-server version requires the installation of special software and configuring additional hardware. And this work should be entrusted to qualified system administrators or 1C specialists.

Migrating 1C to the Cloud

The database migration to the cloud is performed in three steps.

Step 1: Downloading an existing 1C database into a file

  1. Launch 1C and select the database to be migrated from the list.
  2. Specify the folder to store the database file and its name. Click Save.
  3. Go to the "Configurator" and in the main menu find "Administration" - "Download information base".

The upload speed depends on the database size and can take a long time. We recommend not to burden your computer with other tasks.

Step 2: Transferring the 1C database file to a folder to upload to the cloud

Find the uploaded file in the folder where you saved it

Copy it to a new location to upload it to the cloud. Files up to 1GB can be copied in the standard way (Copy|Paste). It is better to upload "heavy" files to an FTP server or the cloud

Step 3: Upload your 1C database file to Cloud4Y

To upload your database file to a new information base, go to your 1C virtual server. You will get access to it from a manager or Cloud4Y technical support employee.

  1. Create an empty folder on the C drive with the name of your information base. You can give any name, for example, "1C Bases".
  2. Create in a new folder one more, for example, "Accounting". You will then put the previously downloaded information base in this folder.
  3. Open 1C and click "Add" in the window with the list of bases
  4. Select "Create a new information base" in the appeared window, then "Next".
  5. Select "Create information base without configuration" and then select "Next" again.
  6. Specify a name for the new information base on your 1C cloud server. Select the database location "On this computer or a computer in the local network". Click "Next".

7. Select where your information base will be stored. Select the folder you created earlier. Click "Next" and then "Done". The list of databases will be updated with a new database. In our case, it is "Accounting.

8. Select this base and run the "Configurator.

9. In the "Administration" menu select "Load Information Base".

10. Download the base. The larger the file, the longer it will take to download. Once the message about successful downloading appears, the program will offer to restart the "Configurator". This is not necessary for us, so click "No".

11. Done. Now you have a virtual server 1C with the current information base. You can work with it as usual.

Why migrate 1C to the cloud

There are several options for deploying the 1C database to the cloud with their pros and cons. In any scenario migration to the cloud can significantly reduce costs, since cloud computing requires less staff and much less physical space, eliminates the need for special tools for managing and maintaining a complex IT environment. In the long run, it results in lower capital costs as well as lower operating costs for electricity.

The solution is beneficial to businesses that are not ready to invest in a licensed software and its regular updates. 1C Virtual Server is also beneficial for large businesses, as it allows optimizing costs and guarantees fast and stable operation of accounting systems.

Migration to the cloud is also beneficial for companies with a broad branch network. It allows you to consolidate all data and eliminate the risk of losing important information, as well as to improve the collaboration. Among the other benefits are the following:

1. You can easily change the number of users in the cloud, the number of used databases

2. No need to buy expensive licenses

3. Easy databases creating and management

4. Automatic updates, no need to maintain software

5. The 1C cloud server capacity is enough to work with any number of databases of different sizes. No need to buy powerful equipment to support growing databases

6. Employees can work with 1C in the cloud from anywhere.

7. No risk of data loss. Automatic data backup and replication allow keeping the database up to date even if something happens to the main server

In general, a cloud solution reduces the burden on IT and accounting, while increasing the reliability and efficiency of accounting. The company can evade its responsibilities for maintaining IT equipment and focus on more important business tasks.

1C Virtual server – technical characteristics

For better performance, you need two servers – a server for 1C hosting, and a server for the databases. But the specific technical characteristics depend on the number of users. We recommend calculating based on the following standards: 1.5 GB RAM for the operating system, 0.5 GB per user in file mode. For the 1C server, 2 GB RAM for the operating system and 4 GB when using the SQL DBMS are suitable.

If you need a reliable cloud solution, but you are not sure which characteristics of the virtual 1C server you need, please contact our managers. They would be glad to answer your questions. If you do know the parameters, use the calculator to understand the approximate cost of cloud solutions from Cloud4Y.
